Senior Burnout
So...what is senior burnout, or “senioritis”? This difficult condition, something experienced only by high school seniors, is essentially lack of motivation in almost every aspect. For example, several symptoms are not caring about your appearance, overall laziness, and incomplete work. The results of senior burnout are that your grades are likely to lower due to unfinished assignments, not studying, guessing on tests or quizzes, and lack of research on projects. Often, seniors won’t even bother to proofread their essays or papers, which is a simple way of boosting your grade. Procrastination is another struggle that ties into senioritis. It is common for seniors to wait until the last minute to start on a vital project. This can result in poor quality work which will always give you a low grade.
Some solutions to this issue are to schedule breaks or activities that you enjoy to give yourself some time to reset and refocus so your brain doesn’t feel so overwhelmed. Another way to help this problem is always keeping in mind what you want to do in the future and how good quality work now will benefit you in the long run. Exercise can make a huge difference in your mental health and ability to focus, so prioritizing that could be the change you need. If you still cannot get past senioritis, consider finding a mentor to discuss it with.
In conclusion, there are many ways you can manage to overcome senior burnout, difficult as it may be. Once you do conquer your lack of motivation, your senior year will become far more simple.
